Forkland Heritage Festival & Revue 1971-2024

In October 2024, the Forkland Community Center, located in southwestern Boyle County, Kentucky celebrates its’s 53rd Annual Forkland Heritage Festival & Revue.  The Forkland Community Center was started in 1971 when the Forkland School was closed.  Local residents pledged money to buy the school buildings and incorporated Forkland Community Center as a nonprofit organization.  In the following fall, the first Forkland Heritage Festival & Revue was held to help preserve the history of the community and to provide funds for the Community Center.  Each October, since then, the Forkland Festival has been held, drawing visitors from all over Kentucky and from other states.  This year a full Forkland Festival is planned.  More information will be available on this website in the next few months.

We invite you to Come and Visit With Us!

The Forkland Festival is different in many ways from other fall festivals, with an emphasis on local rural history, locally handmade crafts for show and sale, and delicious food. It is held in the Knobs area, with farms, forested hills with autumn colors, and the North Rolling Fork flowing by; there is no town at all—just beautiful rural scenery! Forkland is well-known for preserving its local history, and there are many displays and activities to interest both adults and children. A 1790s log cabin is hosted by relatives of Abraham Lincoln, whose maternal grandmother lived in Forkland. The Forkland Lincoln Museum is full of interesting historical artifacts and many files and books containing historical and genealogical information. Behind the main buildings is a large Old Farm Equipment Museum full of items that were used on farms in the past—from horse-drawn equipment to hand tools. There is also a Family History Room, a School & Servicemen display, and many old-time activities such as horse and wagon rides and soap and sorghum making. The Festival is run by volunteers dressed in old-time clothing to add to the atmosphere.

And there’s still more, including (on Saturday) a classic car show and a 4K Fox & Hound Run through the Forkland hills and hollows. Live country and gospel music will be played on the outside stage both days. The Art Room exhibits paintings from local artists and has supplies so that visitors can make their own art. There is a playground, petting zoo, and other activities planned especially for kids. Inside the main building there is a Silent Auction with one-of-a-kind crafts and other items, plus a Forkland Gift Shop offering Forkland t-shirts, caps, art, and historical and genealogical books.

There are many craft booths, both inside and outside of the buildings, but there are no “flea market” type booths—all of the crafts are made by exhibitors themselves, with some crafters demonstrating their skills. There are also many types of food offered, not only typical festival treats, such as hot dogs and kettle corn, but also old-fashioned Forkland fare, such as ham and biscuits, fried apple pies, and homemade prize-winning cakes. Saturday morning starts off with a delicious all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. This year, the Old Country Supper Theatre (Bean Supper) is being considered.
